The Biggest Lies From the Enemy: Why Eternity Is More Real Than You Think

The enemy wants to keep you blind. He wants you to believe that nothing exists beyond this life — no heaven, no hell, no consequence for how you live. He wants you to put off the question, enjoy the distractions, and wake up in eternity having never sought the truth. He wants to waste your time. He wants to lead you in the wrong direction before you realize you’ve been following him. He promises truth while feeding you lies. He wants you living carefree, following your heart — while he stabs you in the back. Jesus said: “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10)

Satan will use anything to keep you under his control. Your schedule. Your friends. Your hobbies, money, entertainment, and comfort. Anything to stop you from thinking about where you are headed forever. He also wants you to believe he doesn’t exist — because if there is no enemy, there is nothing to fight.  He is does not want you to even see a glimpse of who he really is and where you are headed. If you believe the truth, you become unstoppable. You stand on the winning side.  Scripture warns us: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

The devil has already lost. His only goal now is to take you down with him. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy your life. He hates you bitterly and thinks only of your ruin. There is no good in Satan — only evil, cruelty, and deception. He “was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

Here is the truth: when you die, you go to one of two places. There is no switching. No second chance. No in-between. “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)

Hell is not simply a place for “bad people.” It is a place of real, unending torment for everyone who has not been saved by Jesus Christ. There is unquenchable fire, complete darkness, unrelenting thirst, and perpetual pain. There is weeping, screaming, and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:50) The only company in hell is the sound of others crying out in hopelessness. Its inhabitants remember every moment they had to turn to Jesus — and didn’t. Hell is a place stripped of every blessing, filled entirely with God’s wrath. Those who do not know God “will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord.” (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

Heaven is the opposite — a perfect place of peace, joy, and the presence of God forever. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.” (Revelation 21:4)

Do not believe the lie that you will not die soon, or that you have plenty of time. Your life is fragile. It could end any second, for any reason, and your eternity would be set. “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” (James 4:14) You have eternity ahead of you. Do not waste it!

The enemy also wants you to believe that getting to heaven is complicated — or that you can earn your way there. This is what the world calls religion. He offers every possible path except the true one. Be a better person. Work harder. Be more religious. Follow your heart. He puts a wide, easy, popular road in front of you, labeled “the way to heaven” — but it slopes downward toward destruction. Jesus described it like this: “The gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.” (Matthew 7:13)

The narrow road — the true road — is harder. It involves persecution, sacrifice, and suffering. But it also has joy and peace leading upward to life. “The gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:14)

There are only two roads. Choose carefully.

The only real hope you have is this: recognize your need, and turn to God.

You have sinned against Him and fallen short of His glory. (Romans 3:23) The wages of that sin is death — but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:23) God loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son to die in your place. “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Three days after dying on the cross, Jesus rose again — proving He is victorious, faithful, and worthy of your trust. If you believe in Him, you will not face God’s wrath. You will receive eternal life. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Nothing will be able to separate you from His love. (Romans 8:38–39)

Where you go next matters. Do not wait. Now is the day of salvation!
